With the support of the University of California, Berkeley Chancellor's Community Partnership Fund, I act as Principal Investigator and Director for my community-based, university-funded project Cultural Archives in Motion: Community Editors Traineeship, in partnership with the La Peña Cultural Center.

I direct a team of youth documentary editors and a professional documentary editor. My objectives are threefold:

1. Organize, preserve, and utilize the developing film and sound archives at the La Peña Cultural Center through film preservation, digitization, and organization in partnership with the La Peña archival team.

2. Train a cohort of early-stage documentary editors in archival production, editing software, community-responsive filmmaking, and critical media analysis.

3. Produce a series of short films and short form content in support of La Peña's programming, legacy events, and featured artists and cultural workers. We are currently in production of an original short about the volunteer-driven archival team and La Peña that is protecting more than 50 years of movement histories in print, digital media, visual art, administrative documents, and oral histories.

Archival Organization & Preservation

Our team is working through decades of footage and photographic material, assisting the archival team as they prepare the archives for more public usage.

Filmmaker Traineeship

I developed the project to have an intergenerational mentorship model: to train early career film editors as we organize and work with the film archives and produce our film projects.

Project Outcomes: Short Film & Content Series

Under the guidance of our team, our young editors are producing a series of reels produced from archival images and footage, and an independent short film about the La Peña archival team and their efforts to preserve 50 years of movement history.
