"Cultural Burns" (In Progress)

This film is a collaboration between myself, Peter K. Nelson of the Joseph A. Myers Center for Research on Native American Issues and Department of Environmental Science, Policy & Management, and the Amah Mutsun Land Trust. Supported by the University of California Office of the President’s (UCOP) Climate Action 2023 Seed Awards led by Peter K. Nelson and Don L. Hankins.

Our film features a gathering of California Indigenous fire practitioners as they gather in Quiroste Valley to plan a cultural burn, restoring sacredness to the land through cultural fire.

Principal photography took place in September 2025.

We are now in post-production and have a working edit.
